Warnser's List (Blog Exchange)

Thanks to Warnser for participating in this little blog exchange. I'm really glad he picked this topic. Enjoy!

My List (by Warnser)

A while ago Cardine wrote two really cool blogs based on a list that she wrote many years ago about the things that she wanted to accomplish. I imagine I've written a list or two like that myself. I'm pretty sure that if I still had one of those lists, a lot of the things that I have done would not have been on my list. When Cardine asked if I wanted to do a little blog exchange, I decided to share my list. Here are the things that would probably never have been on my list, and a few things that I would still like to add to it.

'Are you a pole vaulter?' 'No, I'm German, but how did you know my name was Walter?' It's true. In high school I actually vaulted for our track team. I was probaly as surprised by this as anybody, but it was cool. There's nothing like taking a really long stick, jamming it into the ground, and throwing yourself as high in the air as you possibly can. Eleven feet seven inches: that's as far as I possibly could.

Greece! I really like Greece. You might even say I'm a bit obsessed. I haven't always been this way, but then again, I didn't always know that I would spend the better part of two years of my life there.

Can I please speak with my lawyer? For a long time in Greece it was illegal to actively seek religious converts. So it was not exactly a surprise when a few of my friends and I got arrested. I admit I was kind of pleased by the whole thing. I mean, when else would I ever get the chance to spend some quality time in jail?

Wait! You're not the pastor? I went to Greece with purely religious motives, but I never expected to give a lecture in someone else's church. Then one day it happened; a priest stopped my companion and I and invited us as guest lecturers. Imagine my surprise when we walked into a packed house! There must have been a hundred ladies all waiting to hear us. It was a really good discussion, even if they didn't invite us because of the message.

Knock! Knock! When I got back from Greece I decided to join a summer sales program. I'm not sorry that I did, but I honestly don't know what I was thinking. I am a pretty lousy salesperson. I got better, but it wasn't exactly my dream job.

Go for the Gold. It seems like everyone dreams of one day competing in the Olympics, but that never seemed very likely to me. At best, I thought I might be able to go see them sometime. I never thought I would work for them! When the winter Olympics came to Salt Lake, I saw the opportunity, and I jumped right in. All I can say is 'It was so worth it!'

What's that sound? There is a place in the lower part of Tennessee that is unusual at best. You hike down into this cave, and then you tunnel into the mountain about a mile or so. Suddenly, you hear something and you feel something; it's wet. You look around, but you can't see. And then they flip the switch. It's one of the most impressive waterfalls you've ever seen, and it's inside the mountain. I never even dreamed of such a thing.

Action! ...and cut! So once upon a time some friends of mine decided to make a movie, a real movie... with a plot and a script and everything. Well, almost immediately I knew I wanted in. We had a really cool crew, and some of the cast were pretty fun too. And we spent many a late night at Cardine's house reviewing the footage. It was a lot of fun. Hey Cash, how is it?

Okay those are the things that were beyond my imagination. Here are a few of the things that are not or, in other words, the things that are still on the list:

  • Have a talk with Warren Buffett
  • Own a waterfall (not a big one, any size will work)
  • Write a book
  • Be on TV... maybe for my book
  • Surprise someone with... well, I can't tell you or it wouldn't be a surprise
  • Map out and learn all the constellations
  • Go hang gliding

There's a lot of adventure out there to be had.

I'd like to publicly thank Cardine for proposing this exchange. It's actually been pretty cool.

I think Warren Buffett is cool, too. I consider him to be one of my heroes.

I'm glad you put stuff in here about Greece. Especially since that was one of the other topics!

I have to say, I laughed at the pole vaulter joke....:) My cousin served in Holland and said that you were considered an unsuccessful missionary if you never went to jail, is it similar in Greece? :)

I wish I could have gone to jail on my mission. I don't see that any other reason would make me feel good about going to jail, so now I'm actively trying to stay out of jail by being as good as I can be.

I like the pole vaulter joke, too. It made me giggle.

Cool lists! I hope you're able to accomplish all of the ones you want to accomplish!

2 comments within a 24 hour period? This may just be a record. Isn't it funny how sometimes things happen that you never image would happen and then you wonder how they ever happened? I for one would never partiularly like to go to jail, but the waterfall thing that would be pretty cool. On the things you want, I actually do own a waterfall I got for my birthday many years ago I don't know if it even still works, I may just be on national tv as of next thursday, and the hang gliding and the star thing, pretty dang cool.

I wouldn't say you have to get arrested in Greece, but nearly everybody does. Of course I think that is changing, because when we were arrested they were... um, very accommodating. But yeah it's a great way to do it if you do do it

Shellbell I think it is awesome that you finally commented

Emhum ditto
wait what are you doing on tv
and you own a WF?

way cool.

In New York, I mean friday not thursday by the way, we are planning on going early so we can be front and center on the Today Show. We will be trying our hardest to be on TV. Maybe even talk to one of the hosts. That would be pretty cool. As for the WF, is a little motion sensor one that need new batteries. I think thats its only problem. I haven't used it for years. Its just a little toy.

We'll have to talk about Greece! I'm planning a trip there next summer. I'll try not to get thrown in jail though. lol. Great stories and a very fun list.

What is your book going to be about?

Wow, that was fun to read. There were quite a few things I didn't know about. It's always fun to learn more about your friends - thanks for posting.

ShellBell said...

Do you have ideas general ideas for book? Or just that you want to write one?

It would be cool to know all of the constellations. I'm glad that made it to your list.

Dana, it is cool you are planning to go to Greece.

We'll see if it happens. It's hard to travel while in school still I really want to go and if I save enough money I can do it. In the past when traveling overseas I've always needed friends to go along. Recently though I've decided that I can travel abroad on my own. (A good friend is in Asia for three months on her own and loving it. She's inspired me.) Yay Greece!

The today show huh? Awesome!

Dana anytime anyone wants to talk about Greece, I'd generally say I'm in.

I teach you how not to get thrown in Jail Ü.

Sarah I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Shellbell, yes I have ideas, tons of them, the question just is what will I actually write.

Oh and Dana, I will be happy to talk about Greece whether you make it there soon or not.

Ü
