Caught Shoplifting

If you've been reading my posts for over a month, you may recall a post where I discussed my plight of being treated like a shoplifter when I go to Wal-Mart at night.

Tuesday night was different.

Perhaps it's the holiday shopping that required four Wal-Mart employees on each isle stocking the shelves at 11:00 p.m. That was the first oddity that I noticed as I entered that store. I hiked all the way to the back of the store to get my items for purchase.

I hate it when there are only two check-outs open. It seems like I always have to wait. Especially at the line where the ciggies are sold.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a completely empty register waiting for me! The register lady was sweeping around her register and carrying on a conversation with the returns people at the front. Yeah, they were basically yelling, but I wasn't really paying any attention to what they were saying.

And the lady continued to sweep and talk. I was pretty sure she saw me standing there waiting for her.

Hello-o.

Finally she very distractedly made her way over to me to ring up my two items. I usually say thank you to the cashier, but I felt like I would be interrupting if I did. So, I grabbed my items, hurriedly said thanks, and walked off. I caught something from the conversation about a guy heading towards electronics with a white shirt. ...and then, I heard her say as I walked out of sight, "Thank you, and have a nice night!"

I'm trying to make this as Christmasy as I can. Can you tell?

Anyway, just then I saw a guy with a white shirt running out of Wal-Mart! And then, about six or seven Wal-Mart employees also running out the door! And then I thought, "No way." So, then I followed out the door, of course, because I was leaving, and I asked an employee, "Is that a shoplifter?" Yes. Yes way. Yes, it was.

If only he knew that they were all sorts of picky and strict about that sort of behavior there.

The shoplifter was on the other side of the parking lot by then. Only three Wal-Mart employees were still hot on his tail. I guess the others were winded or something. I mean, have you SEEN the parking lot? Just as he reached the other side of the lot, he was tackled.

It looked like it hurt. Seriously.

So, as I drove off, I contemplated the fate of this poor shoplifting guy. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter... um... actually, some more of the Wal-Mart employees had caught up by then, and they were sitting in a circle on the lawn with Shoppy McShoplifter in the middle.

Watching them somehow reminded me of playing chasing-type games in my neighborhood. When I was younger. Okay. Maybe more recently than that.

Stats:
Two out of three cars I passed on the way home were cop cars.
Two out of three cars I passed on the way home were definitely speeding.

If I could be any character from that poem, I think I would want to be Vixen. Hee hee.

What an exciting night. I love that his name was Shoppy McShoplifter.

Don't you just love those little adventures? I'm surprised the employees were allowed to chase after him. At Blockbuster it was strictly ferboten to chase a shoplifter let alone tackle him. If you did so you were fired no matter if you saved the company's property.

Cardine, any ideas what Shoppy McShoplifter was stealing? Was it diapers?

Tearese, Thanks!

Cassie: Yeah... I'm not really sure what all was going on. It seemed like they had caught him inside the store, but he had decided to make a break for it. Thus the chase started through the store.

Julie: Later is sometimes better, but it's sometimes worse. I admit it.

Cash: I think I may have misheard or misunderstood their comments. My thoughts were that he was stealing from electronics, but he also had a white shirt dangling from his back pocket. Doubtfully not diapers, but this is just judging from his appearance and demeanor, so ... I really don't know. It could have been a Christmas present for his dying mother for all I know.

I go to Walmart every other day practically, and how come I never get to see something like that? Actually, I'd probably be freaked out of my mind....... Now that I think of it however, I did see some wacko stuff in the Walmart in Alaska. But that was Alaska, what did I expect?

Wal-mart... Wal-mart... ? What's Wal-mart?

[for those of you who don't understand: this is my blog-comment-representation of a Wal-mart boycott]
