Knock, Knock. Who's There? Colored Eggs. What Color?

One of the best traditions that my family has is coloring Easter eggs. For some reason the whole process is exciting to me. I like getting out the traditional coloring mugs, watching the tablets sizzle in the vinegar, and bending the wire spoon for dipping; it's all great.

This year Dub and I did the coloring. We put one egg in each of the colors to make plain eggs. Then we made random other eggs. We made a traditional plaid egg, an eighties tribute egg, a jack o' lantern egg (complete with stem), a Christmas tree egg, a sun egg, a Dub special egg, and we tried to patch up the cracked egg with one of those plastic wrap-around thingies. It was delightful.

We have egg fights with our eggs. We don't throw them at each other. Each person picks an egg and knocks the pointy ends together. The one that cracks loses. Then the egg is turned around and the rounded ends are knocked together. If the same egg cracks, that egg is gone. If they each have a cracked end, then the tie is broken with their good ends. The process is repeated (we usually fight at each meal) until there is one egg remaining, and that egg is the winner! Can you see that lime green egg? That is one tough egg. The pointy end is very pointy. It basically drilled a hole into my sun egg. It only has the pointy end left, but it has beaten every egg that it's fought.

And, I also like to joust with peeps in the microwave. It's also fun. It's not a tradition, but it's something one of my friends taught me when I was going to school. We didn't do it this year because nobody bought peeps, but it's fun. Did I mention that it's fun?

Easter is great. It provides great activities AND a time to celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection! Yay!

I haven't colored eggs in so long. Your pics made me want to color some eggs.

I LOVE coloring eggs! For years my family wouldn't color them with me, it wasn't cool. Now that we have young kids, it's become cool again. I have as much fun - or more - as my nephew and niece. You and Dub are more creative than me, your eggs are eggs-ceptional. (Sorry for the oft-used pun!)

What?!? No traditional football egg? At least tell me that Dad got his solid blue egg again this year.

We had a great time dying eggs this year (actually we always do). We had 11 people (ages 3, 5, 17, 28 and older) and 9 1/2 doz. hard boiled eggs. One of the neatest parts was that my mother (nearly 85) dyed some eggs this year. I don't remember ever seeing her dye eggs.

we did ours easter evening. JOSeph said my eggs were all girly, and his most creative one was a police egg. It was red with blue lights on it, and had the words "police egg" on it. He also made a humpty dumpty egg. Mine mostly had swirly designs, and some flowers and stuff. SO yeah, girly.

My wife made a football egg, actually a Texas A&M football egg, but in the egg rolling competition, it cracked, something like the football team did late this last season. Coincidence, I think not!

Yay! Thanks for sharing your experiences, everyone!

I wasn't able to dye eggs this year. I was at work when my family dyed them. My little sister drew a dinosaur on hers, it was very cute.

Soooo pretty! I have taken to just loving the plain colors.

Egg fights. How fun. If I didn't love a good deviled egg now and then I'd be all over that.

(You might light this one--ever had a canned whipped cream fight?)

CW: You can still have deviled eggs after you fight with them. It's the best of both worlds.

And, no, I've never done canned whipped cream fights. Sounds delicious and sexy.

The colors on your eggs are so vibrant. Ours definitely didn't come out like that this year.
