Ask Cardine: Part IX - Jawbreaker

The creative juices for blogging are not flowing, so I am doing something that I haven't done in a while: I am bringing back the Ask Cardine segment of this blog. Last time I asked for suggestions on what to write, Sarah provided me with a good list of random topics that I could address on this blog. I already addressed Echoes, so I am going to continue on with her list. I now give you "Jawbreaker."

I have self-assessed ADD. When I am in a class, a presentation, or a meeting, I am so easily distracted by just about anything. The other day I was in a sort of meeting. There was a slide presentation, and they used a visual effect that was supposed to imply various layers. It ended up looking something like this:

And this is what I thought:

That looks kind of like a jawbreaker. I like those ones with layers. What are they? Oh yeah, Gobstoppers. Mmmm... Gobstoppers. Gobstoppers are good, especially the chewy kind. Flaur is like a chewy Gobstopper because she has layers. Oh wait, the what are they talking about now?

Yeah, that is totally me in meetings. Does anyone else do that? Or are you just craving Chewy Gobstoppers now, like me?

Hee, Hee! I have the same problem with paying attention. I'm glad that I got to make an appearance at one of your meetings.

I am very easily distracted too and yes, I am now craving chewy gobstoppers. Those are my favorite and for some reason very few stores carry them. When I am craving them and find them, I stock up! LOL!

I didn't even know they made chewy gobstoppers, nor have I ever had a regular gobstopper. I rarely eat non-chocolate candy, so my experiences are a little limited.

I get distracted, too, but I tend to focus on a particular word, any word, and then repeat it over and over again in my head or I write it over and over again on my leg/arm/desk/etc.

Once I was in a lecture about information systems and I made comparisons about my dating life. But, you may already know that story.

I'm like Julie in regards to the non-chocolate candy, although I have eaten Gobstoppers and I do enjoy them. I just never choose them if there is a chocolate option as well.

I can very easily see how you could have come to think about jawbreakers with a presentation like that.

I never crave anything non-chocolate. I don't like jawbreakers because there isn't eating involved, only sucking, unless I attempt to bite it and break my little teeth off.

I don't like jawbreakers. Though I do prefer tart candy to chocolate.
I already did a post about my mind wandering! I find I pay attention better if I have more than one thing to do. Thats why I used to always draw during lectures, it kept my mind from wandering while I listened.

I'm so glad that I'm not alone. My mind wanders constantly in meetings, classes, etc... I try to stay focused I really do but that works only as long as I'm constantly thinking, "I'm a staying focused." Of course that means that I'm really not focused.

Me too! I'm self diagnosed as well. I even tried an ADD diet once. I almost went crazy.
I could go for a jawbreaker right now...

OK I typically don't like candy but I've been thinking about those chewy jawbreakers all week. Thanks a lot! LOL!
