I go out to eat for "Chinese food" somewhat often. I love to get the fortune cookies. Sometimes you get fortunes, sometimes you get proverbs, and sometimes you get nonsense. Today's fortune happened to be:
A chance meeting with a stranger may soon change your life.
My lucky numbers were: 7 20 22 42 45 47
I keep hoping that I'll get the lucky numbers: 4 8 15 16 23 42
I usually get 1/6, sometimes 2/6, but I don't think I've done any better than that. Anyway, I've decided that the stranger, of whom it is spoken above, is named "Yoga." Even though I told them not to get one for me, my whole office got passes to a gym in town. Tonight I decided to try it out because my coworker was going to yoga, and I wasn't doing anything better. I have the first season of "24," but to tell you the truth, I would fire that Jack Bauer the first chance I got. He sucks.
I have learned many things from this experience (yoga, not watching "24"):
O I have no balance. The instructor kept having us stand on one leg. Nope, not me. At least not in the way that she wanted. I kept falling over, and I actually gave up during that portion. I seriously was bad at it.
O I am unflexible on the left side of my body. It's as if my left leg has been just chilling with my body and doing nothing. The left side is such a slacker. Slacker!
O Yoga is cool. You stretch and relax, and it counts as exercise! It's exercise's equivalent to sleeping in! Yesssss!
O There is something important about lengthening your spine. I'm not sure what that is, but it feels good.
O I like increasing my flexibility.
O When I imagined a nice vacation and relaxation, I imagined my bedroom with my bed and pillows. Somehow I think that the instructor meant for us to imagine a beach, forest, mountain or something. We were supposed to draw in the smells of ocean breeze or trees or whatnot. I had to change my scene to that little island on my cruise to Belize where we played volleyball with the locals. And then when we were supposed to float up, I had to imagine myself in a plane because I was too scared of heights.
O It is good that I have the gym pass. I think I will yoga every week. (Is yoga a verb?)

Technically you "practice" yoga. But my husband always uses it like a verb. "Did you yoga today?" So, I say go with whatever you want as long as you enjoy it!
I liked your vacation visualization though. That works. I started practicing yoga about 10 years ago and my first teacher used to say really cuckoo things like, "Extend your spine... let the lotus flower in your head reach toward the sky." Huh? I don't have a flower in my head. She also used to tell us to "drop our brain down, down, down into a deep pool of cool water." That was weird.
Coincidentally, my ward home evening last week was yoga. Interesting, but there were plenty of guys there for the lesson, but when we went down to the room where we were doing yoga, it was just me and 2 other guys. I didn't have such a problem with the balancing, but I am considerably less limber than I like to think I am. Plus my muscles felt much more fatigued than I expected from such little exercise that I thought we did. It was kinda cool in my opinion.
Guess what? My coworker and I are going to start going to yoga, too! She went last week but I worked late and didn't want to go after I got home so late. She had Enrichment yesterday and I felt sick. So, we're planning on going next week. I guess I'll see you there! (Assuming that I'm remembering that your gym is my gym, of course.)
Did you go out for frogurt after your yoga session?
Try this:
Pick a spot and look at it,
maybe something on the floor.
It should work
(oh yeah, it's for the balance)
Jill: My instructor told us that when we breathe in, we breathe the colors of the rainbow and to visualize our colorful breath when we exhaled. Hmm...
Brandon: I think it's good that you think it's kinda cool. I think that yoga has an unmanly stereotype sometimes, and that's dumb. Guys need flexibility, too, or else they pull muscles they don't want to pull. Also, I saw your brother there. Is your nephew taking kenpo?
Julie: Yay! I think we are going to be in the same class! I am pretty sure we go to the same gym.
banana: No, I did not go for frogurt afterward. But, if I had, the frogurt would have come with my choice of free topping! That's good!
warnser: Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, part of the problem was getting my leg to stay in the pose. I'm going to work on it.
Hmmm... I think I'd like yoga. It sounds re-energizing.
I think it's hilarious that you told your boss not to get you a gym pass. I feel with you. I'd just feel guilty in not going. But, I'm glad that you are giving it a shot. So, what about Wed. night? What are we going to do?
Jess... Let's plan on starting at 9:00, I guess and then Megan can catch up? 10 is definitely too late for me for starting.
I am going to start trying yoga soon too. I was going to start next thursday, but I ended up getting set up on a date for that night so I am going to have to wait for my yoga.
There was a girl in my art classes who did all her paintings about yoga stuff. And two of my coworkers are actually also yoga instructors. One of them has a tattoo of the 'ohm' symbol on the back of her neck, among other things.
I've always thought it would be interesting to take yoga, but I already know I'm fairly inflexible and unbalanced as well. Half of the stretches we did in middle school p.e. I couldn't do, and I know the teacher thought I was just being lazy.
Indy, a date!?!? I hope you're going to give us more details!
I used to do yoga. I wish I would have had someone take a picture of me doing the plow. I describe it to my kids and they can't imagine that I could ever have done that. (Frankly, it kind of blows my mind, too)
I don't know if my nephew is doing kenpo, I haven't talked to Jeff since the break. Last I heard Justin was doing kickboxing. If only I had time for martial arts these days. I barely have time for church stuff, plus haven't seen M&L for 2 weeks. BTW, the other night I was thinking how I need someone to say something nice about me. Luckily, my mother called a while later.
He's not doing kenpo. I saw them later that week, and Jeff laughed at me, I mean, said no.
I'm sorry you felt that way - that you needed someone to say something nice about you. I dare you to call my sister Cash sometime and say, "Please say something nice about me." She would understand.
